Research Chairs

 

Donations given to the Armand-Frappier Foundation of the INRS University also help either to support or create specialized Chairs in certain research subjects at INRS Armand-Frappier Research Centre.

 

  • Research Chair Louise and André Charron in Alzheimer's disease

In June 2012, the Foundation unveils a substantial financial commitment from the Louise and André Charron family to contribute to the creation of a Research Chair in Alzheimer's disease at INRS-Institute Armand-Frappier Research Centre.

''In light of the alarming number of families affected by Alzheimer’s disease, there is an urgent need to get to the root of this scourge. In our view, fundamental research holds the most promise for eradicating the disease,” said André B. Charron, spokesman of the donor family and member of the board of directors in the Foundation.''

Professor Charles Ramassamy of the INRS-Institute Armand-Frappier Research Centre has been named the inaugural chair holder of the new Louise and André Charron Research Chair in Alzheimer's disease. The chair's research program will focus on prevention, early detection, and improved treatment of the disease.

 

  • Chair Jeanne and J.-Louis Lévesque in immunovirology 

Professor Alain Lamarre, holder of the Jeanne and J.-Louis Lévesque chair in Immunovirology from the J.-Louis Lévesque Foundation in 2003, focuses his research to understand the mechanisms that permit the establishment of viral persistence both from the host and virus perspectives.

 

Chairs and endowment

To ensure the continuity of their donation, some organizations and individuals choose to create specific funds at the Fondation Armand-Frappier.

 

  • Fonds Jeanne et J.-Louis Lévesque

Fund created in 2003 by Suzanne Lévesque, Chair of the Fondation J.-Louis Lévesque.This fund provides for the Jeanne and J.-Louis Lévesque Research Chair in Immunovirology. Mr. Alain Lamarre, professor at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier is the Chair holder.

  • Fonds J.-Louis Lévesque

This fund was created in 1984 by Mrs. Suzanne Lévesque, Chair of the Fondation J.-Louis Lévesque.It provides for the awarding of three postdoctoral scholarships each year.

  • Fonds Roland Chagnon

A fund created in 2004 by the members of the Chagnon family to honour the achievements of Mr. Roland Chagnon, former President of Lallemand Inc.
The fund is dedicated to the annual award of a postdoctoral scholarship.

  • Fonds Michel Trudel

This fund was created in 1998 by Michel Trudel, former professor and Director of Science at the Institut Armand-Frappier.
This fund was first created to provide for scholarships, (1998 to 2003), and later dedicated to the financial needs of the Armand-Frappier Museum (2003 to 2010).

  • Fonds Michel Saucier

This fund was created in 2005 by Mr. Michel Saucier, former President of Sabex.
It provides for the awarding of scholarships to students pursuing research in virology.

  • Fonds National Bank of Canada

This fund was created in 2004 by the National Bank of Canada during the honorary presidency of Mr. Réal Raymond at the Fête Champêtre that year.
The proceeds from this fund provide for the annual award of a doctoral scholarship.

  • Fonds RBC Financial Group

This fund was created in 2004 by the RBC Royal Bank, which has been a partner in the scholarships of the Fondation Armand-Frappier since 1995. Further contributions to the fund were announced in 2007 by Mrs. Micheline Martin, President, Québec Headquarters, RBC Royal Bank, during her honorary presidency of that year's edition of the Fête Champêtre.
The fund is dedicated to the annual award of a doctoral scholarship.

  • Fonds Mouvement des caisses Desjardins

This fund was created in 2003 by the Mouvement des caisses Desjardins – Desjardins Group during the honorary presidency of Mr. Alban D'Amours at the Fête Champêtre that year.
The proceeds from this fund provide for the annual award of a doctoral scholarship.

  • Fonds Power Corporation du Canada

This fund was created in 2005 by the Power Corporation of Canada on the occasion of Mr. André Desmarais' honorary presidency of the Fête Champêtre that year.
The proceeds from this fund provide for the annual award of a master's scholarship.

  • Fonds André Charron

This fund was created in 1999 following a major donation by Mr. André Charron, former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lévesque Beaubien and former Chairman of Industrial-Alliance. The fund was enriched over the years by major donations in memory of Mr. Charron. A second major donation was made to the Foundation by the son of Mr. André Charron, Mr. André B. Charron. This fund provides for the annual award of an André Charron Scholarship to a doctoral student.

  • Fonds Claude Pichette

Mr. Claude Pichette was Director General of the Institut Armand-Frappier from 1991 to 1997 and Director General of the Fondation Armand-Frappier from 1997 to 2003.
This fund provides for the annual award of a doctoral scholarship.

  • Fonds Association des professeurs de l'Institut Armand-Frappier (APIAF)

This fund provides for the annual award of a master's research scholarship.

  • Fonds Étudiants/Jacqueline Lecomte

Donations from the organizing committees of the Armand-Frappier Conference have allowed the creation of this fund which is enriched by the contribution the fonds Jacqueline Lecomte, by student initiatives and by patrons.
The fund provides for the award of Fellowships for Conferences Outside Québec, for students of the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier to present their research findings to international conferences.

  • Fonds Hydro-Québec

This fund was created in 2006 by Hydro-Québec on the occasion of the honorary presidency of Mr. Élie Saheb of the Fête Champêtre that year.
The proceeds from this fund provide for the annual award of a master's scholarship.

  • Fonds Bell Canada

This fund was created in 2007 by Bell Canada, a partner of the Foundation from the outset, supporting the creation of scholarships and the achievement of innovative science projects at INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier.
This fund ensures the annual award of a Master's scholarship.

  • Fonds CGI

This fund was created in 2007 by CGI, on the occasion of the Fête Champêtre.
It provides for the annual award of master's scholarships.

  • Fonds J. Armand Bombardier

This fund was created in 2007 by the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation which has since 1999 encouraged postgraduate students to pursue their training and their careers in research by creating master's and doctoral scholarships to be awarded by the Fondation Armand-Frappier.
This fund is dedicated to the annual award of Master's scholarships.
